Meningitis awareness for students: Freshers are especially at risk

student partyIn amongst all the preparations for uni which you may be planning to tackle after next Thursday, there is a more serious health related one you should consider.

Freshers are an at-risk group for meningitis, due to their love of heavy duty socialising in crowded places with lots of new people: The Guardian: Teenagers and Students advised to take new meningitis vaccine

But there’s help and information at hand by way of an information pack you can request from the people in the know: the charity Meningitis Now. It’s available for parents or students.

I’ve just signed up for this helpful ‘Off to uni’ guide and will make sure our youngest will get her vaccine, ideally two weeks before her Fresher’s week in mid-September.
